Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in Hip and Knee Surgery

Edward specialises in hip and knee surgery and trauma. He trained in at the internationally renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore where he was the Senior Surgical Officer and awarded the Seddon Society Medal for research. There he trained with some of the leading hip and knee replacement surgeons in the UK. His fellowship year was spent in London training in minimally invasive techniques and rapid rehabilitation.  He is clinical lead for Enhanced Recovery in Fife and has lectured nationally on the subject. He has also visited several national and international centres learning new techniques of enhanced recovery.

He is a leading national and international expert in the field of hip bearings and his research has been widely presented and published.

He performs over 100 joint replacement operations and many keyhole (arthroscopic) operations for cartilage problems per year. He is based in Fife working at Queen Margaret’s Hospital and the Victoria Hospital. His private practice is based at Fernbrae Hospital, Dundee.

He has a keen interest in joint replacements for younger patients with arthritis and new technology designed to preserve the lifespan of joint replacements and improve the fixation of implants to bone. He uses minimal access (rapid recovery) muscle sparing techniques where appropriate.

He has published in journals such as Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, The Knee, Injury and Hip International.

He is a member of the British Hip Society, British Trauma Society and the British Orthopaedic Association.

He is a member of the teaching faculty at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and supervises medical students and trainees in South East Scotland.

He has recently been appointed as team doctor to Dundee Football Club.
